THE FORMULA FOR SUCCESS: HOW JULIA SCORED 7.5 ON HER IELTS AND WON A $12,000 SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY IN MALAYSIA

Applying to a university abroad is a real challenge - and it becomes even more difficult when your goal is to secure a substantial scholarship. Add to the task of achieving a top IELTS score in just three months of preparation. This might seem almost impossible. But not for our student, Julia!

Her incredible story proves one powerful truth: with the right strategy, even the most ambitious goals are within reach. Julia achieved an IELTS score of 7.5 and won a $12,000 scholarship - opening the doors to her dream university in Malaysia. This was not just luck; it was the result of following a clear formula for success. And we are about to share it with you.

Higher than IELTS 6.5: What goal did Julia set and why did she seek help?

Dreaming of studying abroad is wonderful - but the cost can be a real challenge, right? Julia knew it first-hand. She was eager to enrol in the Design & Creative Media programme at the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation. It's one of Malaysia's top universities. She soon realised that the high tuition fees were beyond her budget.

Write your awesome label here.
Like thousands of other students,
Julia understood that without financial support, her dream might remain just that -
a dream.

Her ambitions were high, but her budget was limited. That meant a scholarship was the key to her dream. She needed to find a way to cover at least 50% of her tuition costs.

At first glance, the university’s IELTS requirements seemed achievable: an overall score of at least 6.5, with no section below 6.0. It seemed she could simply “pass” the exam and secure admission to a prestigious university.

However, Julia showed true strategic thinking. Instead of aiming for the minimum, she consulted a university adviser. It quickly became clear that if she wanted not just to get in, but to compete for a scholarship, her target IELTS score had to be higher.

An IELTS score of 7.0 was the coveted target. It significantly boosted her chances of receiving the desired funding!

With this new, more ambitious and clearly defined goal, Julia joined our school. She aimed to achieve a score between 7.0 and 7.5 in just three months of preparation.

She wasn't just looking for a general English course. She was searching for a proven formula for success — one that would help her earn an excellent IELTS score and secure the scholarship that would make her dream education in Malaysia affordable.

Julia's example clearly illustrates a key point: it’s not enough to meet minimum entry requirements — it’s vital to explore scholarship opportunities in depth.

Why is Malaysia becoming a new magnet
for international students?

Malaysia is far more than just an exotic holiday destination — it’s also one of Asia's fastest-growing higher education hubs, attracting students from all over the world. Wondering why? The answer is simple. Here, you can receive high-quality education that rivals many globally recognised institutions.

Let's explore why this country is becoming the top choice for thousands of international students.

1. High-Quality Education at an Affordable Price

Many Malaysian universities collaborate with top institutions from the UK, Australia, and the USA, offering dual-degree programmes. Tuition and living costs are also significantly lower than in Europe or North America — making world-class education genuinely accessible.

2. Global Recognition and International Experience

A degree earned in Malaysia is recognised globally. Universities actively attract students and academic staff from across the globe, creating a truly multicultural environment.

3. English – The Language of Study and Daily Life

For most international programmes, English is a major advantage. Students not only deepen their knowledge in their chosen fields but also practise English daily, both in academic settings and everyday life.

4. Safety and Hospitality

Malaysia is known for its safety and friendliness towards foreigners. It’s a peaceful, stable and welcoming country where students can feel comfortable and secure. Locals are hospitable and always ready to help, which makes adaptation much easier.

5. Career Growth and Post-Graduation Opportunities

Malaysia's rapidly developing economy offers excellent prospects for graduates. Many universities maintain strong links with industry, helping students secure internships and employment after graduation.

The Malaysian government invests heavily in international education — building modern campuses, attracting experienced lecturers and launching industry-relevant programmes.

Malaysia’s leading universities include:

1. University of Malaya - https://www.um.edu.my/

Founded in 1905, it is Malaysia’s oldest and one of its most prestigious universities, offering a wide range of programmes and consistently ranking highly in global education listings.

2. Putra University Malaysia - https://upm.edu.my/

Known for its strong programmes in agriculture, biotechnology, and environmental sciences, this university is research-active and equipped with modern infrastructure.

3. Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology - https://tarc.edu.my/

The university offers diverse programmes in business, engineering and IT, with a strong focus on practical application.

4. Universiti Sains Malaysia - https://www.usm.my/en/

One of the leading research universities, offering degrees in science, technology and medicine, and collaborating widely with international institutions.

5. Universiti Kuala Lumpur - https://www.unikl.edu.my/

The university specialises in technical and applied sciences, providing hands-on programmes designed to develop skills essential for modern industries.

6. University of Nottingham Malaysia - https://www.nottingham.edu.my/

A branch campus of the renowned British university, delivering programmes taught in English and maintaining high international rankings.

IELTS is one of the world’s most respected and widely accepted exams, highly valued by Malaysian universities.

Achieving a strong IELTS score opens doors to almost any university of your choice — and significantly increases your chances of receiving full or partial funding.

For example, our student Julia’s programme costs around $24,000 for the entire period of study. Thanks to her excellent academic performance and high IELTS score, her tuition was reduced to just $12,000 — making high-quality international education in Malaysia both accessible and an incredibly smart investment in her future.

Julia's preparation level
before joining our school

When Julia approached our school, she had only three months to prepare for the IELTS exam. As always, we began by assessing her current level and clearly defining her goal. According to the “English Levels and IELTS Band Equivalents” chart, achieving a score of 7.0–7.5 requires an Advanced level of English.

Write your awesome label here.

At the start of her preparation, Julia’s level was B2 (Upper-Intermediate) — a solid foundation. She could communicate freely and express her opinions clearly. However, something was missing for that coveted Advanced score.

What was the challenge?

For an IELTS score of 7.0+, it's not just about good language knowledge. It also requires confident use of complex grammar and a wide range of high-level vocabulary. This was exactly where Julia struggled. She didn’t always use complex sentence structures and often preferred simpler, more familiar words — even though her speech was fluent and natural.

Technology

Band 5.5

  • use phones

  • find information

  • spend time online

  • new technology

  •   modern gadgets

Band 7.5

  • use digital devices

  • access online information

  • engage in online interaction

  • advanced technology

  • cutting-edge devices

We knew time was critical. Therefore, our first step was to focus on the weakest area: vocabulary. Julia immersed herself in our intensive “Vocabulary for IELTS” course, and in just two weeks she mastered and practised the essential advanced vocabulary needed for her target level.

Julia was motivated and ready to work hard, but she couldn’t afford expensive classes.
That’s why our online learning platform became the ideal solution for her:

Intensity

Clear lessons and structured practice.

Affordability

Excellent quality at an optimal cost.

Effectiveness

Listening practice and skill reinforcement.

Thanks to this approach, Julia not only filled the gaps in her knowledge — she went on to achieve an impressive IELTS score of 7.5, confirming her Advanced level.

Three steps to strengthen General English

When we talk about IELTS preparation, many people immediately think of tests and strategies. But what if your general English isn't yet at the desired level? That’s exactly where we started with Julia.

Before tackling the exam itself,
it is essential to build a strong foundation.

We began with three key tools that became the core of her successful learning journey.

1. «Vocabulary for IELTS» Course

This course focuses on 20 essential vocabulary topics.
These topics are truly vital for IELTS success. We don’t just teach words; we practise them through listening and reinforcement tasks.

Imagine
describing a complex problem. You can say "detrimental" or "catastrophic," not just "bad." That instantly adds +1 band to your Speaking score!

One of Julia’s main challenges was confidently using advanced vocabulary. She spoke fluently at a B1–B2 level, but Advanced-level words felt out of reach. This course became her turning point. Through practice tests and listening activities, she learnt to use new words actively and improved her pronunciation along the way.

Repeating after the speaker and practising intonation proved invaluable for both the Speaking and Listening sections.

After just one week of the intensive “Vocabulary for IELTS” course, Julia noticed remarkable progress. She began to use more academic and complex expressions across all 20 topics in her speech. Here are examples from one of them:

Environment

Band 5.5

  • protect nature

  • cut trees

  • air pollution

  • use cars

  •   too much waste

  • bad for nature

Band 7.5

  • preserve the environment

  • deforestation

  • atmospheric contamination

  • rely on private vehicles

  • excessive waste production

Find all the details about the «Vocabulary for IELTS» course here - https://www.youskill.online/ielts-vocabulary

2. «Phrasal Verbs for IELTS» Course

Phrasal verbs can be a real stumbling block for many learners, yet in the IELTS Speaking test they showcase your natural, high-level English!

After mastering key vocabulary, we focused on phrasal verbs — an essential part of everyday speech. Julia practised them through listening and exercises until they became automatic.

For example, instead of "I started my business,"
you could say "I set up my business."
It sounds far more natural and professional, doesn’t it?

3. «Idioms for IELTS» Course

The third stage of preparation involved studying idioms - another feature that frequently appears in the exam. Understanding and confidently using these expressions allowed Julia to demonstrate her Advanced level.

This example proves something important: with the right approach and structured learning, improving your General English isn’t a distant dream. It’s a fully achievable goal — one that opens the doors to IELTS success.

From "Hearing" to "Understanding":
Our approach to Listening Preparation

When we began preparing for the Listening section, our goal was clear — to help Julia master each question type effectively. The Listening part of the IELTS exam may seem challenging, but with the right strategy and proven techniques, results can improve dramatically.

- Studying Question Types

The first step was to familiarise ourselves with the main question formats that appear in the exam. These include multiple-choice questions, gap-filling tasks, matching information, and short-answer questions. Each has its own pitfalls and hidden “keys”. We explained in detail what to watch out for in each type.

Understanding how the questions are structured
helps reduce thinking time during the test
and makes answering far more efficient.

- Task-Solving Techniques

Next, we focused on techniques for quick and accurate answers. For instance, identifying keywords in the task and predicting what kind of information will appear in the recording are crucial skills.

These preparation steps helped Julia a lot. She approached the Listening section with confidence, ready for any question — and this significantly increased her chances of success.

Secrets of IELTS Reading:
Effective strategies for every task type

Many people think that reading in English is easy. However, IELTS Reading is not just a test of vocabulary or grammar — it’s a labyrinth of complex texts, where questions hide around every corner, and demand a strategic approach.

You don’t need to be an expert in every subject to understand challenging academic passages. Instead, we teach you how to recognise paragraph structures, identify main ideas, and scan texts for keywords efficiently. You’ll learn how to find the necessary information quickly — without wasting time on unnecessary details.

Julia performed exceptionally well in this section,
using proven strategies to make the most of her exam time.

To reinforce her knowledge, we used practice tests covering various question types. This helped Julia become familiar with the exam format and significantly improved her reading speed. Through consistent practice, she learnt to approach texts of different difficulty levels with confidence and accuracy.

IELTS Speaking:
Key aspects in Julia's preparation

The Speaking section often causes genuine anxiety. Just imagine — you have only 11–14 minutes to show your best English skills. You’re expected to answer quickly, use complex vocabulary and grammar, and stay calm under pressure.

It’s not easy to stay focused and give precise, detailed answers while the timer ticks away.

Statistically, this part of the test causes
the highest level of stress for about 70% of students.

Why does the Speaking section seem so challenging?

You have to manage several things at once:

  • Limited time: Every second counts. Long pauses can cost you valuable points.

  • Multitasking: You must think about vocabulary, grammar, logic, and pronunciation — all at the same time.

  • Unpredictable questions: You never know what topic will come up, and sometimes it’s completely unfamiliar.

  • Emotional pressure: The fear of making mistakes or forgetting words can make anyone nervous.

All of these factors can lead to mechanical or memorised speech — something examiners quickly notice and dislike. It sounds unnatural and robotic.

Our Solution: 18 Ready-Made Strategies for Every Situation.

When preparing Julia, we worked on every detail of her Speaking performance. We didn’t just offer general advice — we provided ready-made, time-tested strategies that help handle even the most difficult scenarios.

After each practice session, we analysed Julia’s responses and gave her detailed feedback. This helped her identify weak areas and adjust her approach. As a result, her confidence grew — and so did her score potential.

Thanks to this comprehensive preparation, Julia entered the exam feeling calm, focused, and ready to perform at her best. That self-confidence became one of the key factors
behind her Speaking success.

IELTS Writing:
From the fear of a blank page to a flawless essay

The IELTS Writing section is regarded as one of the most challenging — and for good reason. For IELTS Academic test-takers, describing graphs and charts is a requirement. Those taking the General Training test must be able to write appropriate letters. The second part involves writing a 250-word essay on a complex topic — another layer of challenge.

That’s why preparing for the Writing section is a challenging process. It requires an understanding of all task types and a clear grasp of how to structure your answer according to the exam criteria.

Write your awesome label here.

This section demands both multitasking and precision:

- Task 1: Different Scenarios.

In the Academic test, you may be asked to describe a graph, diagram, or table. You must not simply list figures — instead, analyse trends and highlight key data. In the General test, you’ll write a letter — and not just the meaning matters. The tone, style, and format are equally important.

- Task 2: A 250-Word Essay.

Here, you’ll write a full essay — often on a complex, philosophical, or social topic. You must present your viewpoint and support it with strong, logical arguments while maintaining an academic tone throughout.

All of this happens under strict time limits — only 20 minutes for Task 1 and 40 minutes for Task 2, including planning, writing, and proofreading.

Here are a few sample Writing Task 2 questions:

Education

1. Some people believe that students should be given less homework. Others think that homework plays an important role in education. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

2. In many countries, the quality of education depends on how wealthy a person’s family is. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

3. Some people think that practical skills are more important than academic knowledge. Do you agree or disagree?

Technology

1. Some people think that modern technology is making people more social, while others believe it is making them less social. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

2. In the future, robots will do more and more jobs. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

3. The use of the Internet has both advantages and disadvantages. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Environment

1. Many people think that individuals cannot do anything to improve the environment, only governments and large companies can make a real difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

2. Environmental problems are too big for individual countries and individuals to solve. What are the causes, and what solutions do you suggest?

3. Some people believe that the best way to protect the environment is to increase the price of fuel. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Health

1. Some people think that the government should provide free health care for everyone. Others believe that people should pay for their medical treatment. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

2. Nowadays people are eating more fast food than ever before. Why is this happening, and how can it be solved?

3. Prevention is better than cure. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Work & Career

1. Some people think that job satisfaction is more important than job security. Do you agree or disagree?

2. Nowadays, many people work from home using computers and the Internet. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this development?

3. Many people change their careers during their lifetime. Is this a positive or negative development?

Global Issues / Media / Tourism

1. Some people believe that international tourism is harmful to local cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

2. The news media has too much influence on people’s lives today. Do you agree or disagree?

3. Globalisation has many benefits but also causes the loss of cultural identity. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

That’s why preparation for the Writing section is more than just practice — it’s a comprehensive process. Together with Julia, we went through every aspect in detail, providing clear, proven tools and techniques rather than simple instructions.

Take Writing Task 2 as an example. The hardest part is often identifying the essay type — whether it’s opinion-based, problem–solution, or a discussion of two views. You also need to know how to structure it properly. That’s where our unique techniques come in. These allow you to:

1. Quickly identify the task type: In just a few seconds, you will learn to "scan" the question and understand its essence.

2. Create the answer's foundation: We provide ready-made structures for each essay type — your personal “guide” to building a logical, complete response.

By following this guide, Julia was able to write high-scoring essays with confidence. She knew exactly how to structure
each part — from introduction to conclusion.

Of course, structure alone is only half the battle. To truly impress the examiner, you must demonstrate linguistic depth and richness.

This is where advanced vocabulary and complex grammatical structures play an invaluable role — areas we focused on intensively during the early stages of preparation.

All the key words, phrases, and idioms Julia mastered with us became her most powerful tools - helping her gain those extra marks. In Writing, it’s not enough to know structure — you must skillfully use vocabulary and grammar in practice. That’s what makes writing lively, convincing, and truly flawless.

As a result, Julia entered the Writing section with confidence — and that confidence became the key to her success.

Excellent IELTS 7.5:
Your gateway to working anywhere in the world

After three months of intensive preparation, Julia took the IELTS exam and achieved an impressive overall score of 7.5 — with 7.5 in Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and 6.5 in Writing. Such a strong result opens a wealth of opportunities — especially if she chooses to continue her education or pursue a career abroad.

2. Gain access to high salaries

Young professionals with this background begin their careers with competitive international salaries, often far above the average in the CIS countries. For example, entry-level salaries in international companies can start at around $2,000–3,000 per month, offering excellent prospects for rapid growth — with experienced professionals earning $5,000 or more.

3. Open doors to further development

Many companies actively seek professionals like this — globally minded individuals with excellent English and international experience. You can work for major corporations or start-ups, or even launch your own project — all while building a global network of contacts.

In short, Julia’s achievement and her choice
of Malaysian education represent far more than just a step — they’re a leap into a bright, boundless future.
Your talent and ambition will have no limits there.
