“I first took IELTS and got 6.0 — I could never speak for long in Part 2. The 5-Step Strategy helped me expand ideas naturally. After the course, I scored Band 7.5 overall and got accepted to a Master’s in International Relations at SOAS, London!
Sofia Marquez, Spain
“I’ve taught English for years but never taken IELTS. I wanted to improve professionally and start teaching IELTS myself. The 18 strategies helped me understand the exam completely. I scored Band 8.0 overall and now feel confident guiding students.”
Ahmed Fathy, Egypt
“I got Band 6.5 on my first attempt — my answers were too short and I froze in Part 3. After practicing the 5-Step Strategy, I learned to speak naturally and develop ideas. On my retake, I scored Band 7.5 overall and felt proud of my progress.”
Mina Choi, South Korea
“I needed IELTS for a job in Canada, but my first attempt gave me only Band 5.0. After the course, I finally understood how to give extended answers in Part 2 and Part 3. It also helped me express my thoughts and feelings more clearly and in detail. I retook the test and scored Band 7.0 overall, landing the position I wanted.”
Gabriel Santos, Brazil
"I had been stuck at 6.5 — my speech felt stiff and rehearsed. The course really helped me speak more naturally and confidently. After six weeks, I scored Band 7.0 overall and secured my place in a Master’s program in Data Analytics at University College London."
Olivia Bertoni, Italy
“I teach English but had never taken IELTS myself. This course helped me understand the exam fully and build confidence. My first attempt after training: Band 7.5 overall, and now I can teach IELTS effectively.”
Rajesh Kumar, India
“I had failed twice before — 6.0 both times. I panicked during follow-up questions. The 5-Step System helped me stay calm and structured. On my third attempt, I scored Band 8.0 overall and finally felt ready for my Master’s in International Business at Copenhagen Business School.”
Anna Kowalczyk, Poland
“I sounded really nervous before. The course’s practical exercises, where I compared answers and learned what makes a high-scoring response, really helped me understand how to structure my own. After three months, I scored Band 7.5 overall and am now preparing to move to Australia for a marketing internship.”
Ren Takahashi, Japan
“I had two previous attempts at 6.0. The course showed me how to structure answers and what makes a high-scoring response, which really boosted my confidence. I retook IELTS and scored Band 8.0 overall, finally ready to apply for a Master’s in International Development at University of Edinburgh.
Fatima Belkadi, Morocco
“I needed IELTS for immigration, but my first result was only Band 5.5. The course helped me systematise my knowledge and understand what a Band 6.5 answer looks like, so by knowing how to structure responses in each part of Speaking, I managed to score Band 6.5 overall. This result allowed me to submit my Canadian visa application successfully.”
David Okafor, Nigeria
“I’m a private English tutor and had always wanted to teach IELTS professionally, but I wasn’t confident in my own Speaking skills and didn’t fully understand what examiners expect. One-on-one lessons helped me improve my fluency, structure my answers, and speak confidently under exam conditions. I scored Band 8.0 overall and now feel fully prepared to train my own students effectively.”
Elena Petrova, Russia
“I always spoke too fast and lacked structure. The 5-Step System taught me to organize my answers clearly. After two months, I scored Band 7.0 overall, enough for my postgraduate program in Toronto.”
Michael Vogt, Germany
“On my first attempt, I got only Band 4.0 — I couldn’t keep my answers going for more than a few seconds. After the course, I learnt how to develop my ideas naturally and keep my speech flowing, which changed everything. I scored Band 6.0 overall and can now apply for a Master’s in Media and Communication at the University of Amsterdam.”
Nour Abboud, Lebanon
“I first took a short Vocabulary for IELTS course, which really helped me expand what I could say. But after joining the IELTS Speaking course, everything clicked — I learnt how to use those words naturally and speak with confidence. I got Band 7.5 overall and can’t wait to start my Master’s in Engineering at the Technical University of Munich.”
Chen Liyun, China
“Before the course, I usually got around Band 5.5 on my mock tests — I knew grammar but couldn’t speak naturally. The lessons helped me understand how high-scoring answers are structured and sound. After six weeks, I scored Band 7.0 overall and got accepted for a semester abroad at the University of Edinburgh.”
Carla Montoya, Mexico
“I often ran out of ideas in Part 2 and felt lost halfway through my answers. The 5-Step System taught me how to plan my response quickly and keep it flowing. I went from Band 6.0 to 7.0 overall, which helped me qualify for my skilled worker visa to Canada.
Arjun Patel, India
“I’ve been living in the UK for a couple of years and needed a higher IELTS score to extend my visa. By learning the Speaking criteria and how to approach each part, I became much more confident in my answers. After focused study, I reached Band 7.5 overall, and now I can continue living and working in the UK.”
Mira Dimitrova, Bulgaria
“I froze in Part 2 and could barely speak for 40 seconds. Then I took the Vocabulary for IELTS course and later joined this Speaking course, which helped me build confidence and express ideas more freely. On my next test, I scored Band 7.0 overall, and speaking no longer feels terrifying.”
Nadia Karaca, Turkey

We analysed real IELTS exam questions and identified 18 proven strategies that will help answer any question with confidence in the Speaking part and aim for a high band score.

How do we select the best strategies?

We selected the best strategies that will help raise your score while still sounding natural in any part of the IELTS Speaking test.

Here is an example of the ‘Liking’ strategy, showing three versions of a response in Speaking Part 1: Too simple → Balanced → Too rare.

Question: What kind of holidays do you enjoy?
Empty space, drag to resize

Too Simple:

I like holidays. I go to the beach. It is fun.

Explanation:
Too simple and short, no details, examples, or connectors. The examiner does not get enough information to evaluate higher-level speaking skills.

Balanced:

Well, I’m really passionate about beach holidays. I love soaking up the sun and checking out local cafés by the shore. On top of that, swimming and taking long walks along the coast is something I really enjoy. I suppose it’s because being near the water helps me unwind and feel completely refreshed after a busy period.

Explanation:
Ideal for Speaking Part 1: there is a general idea, specific examples, and a reason. It has natural vocabulary, smooth connectors, and appropriate phrasal verbs.

Too Rare:

I derive immense pleasure from partaking in maritime retreats, where I can luxuriate under the sun’s rays and perambulate along the littoral expanses, interspersed with excursions to gastronomic establishments. Such experiences facilitate a profound state of repose and cognitive rejuvenation, albeit bordering on the extravagant for casual holiday discourse.

Explanation:
Too complex and unnatural for Part 1. There are too many rare words and heavy constructions, making the speech unclear and unsuitable for the exam.

Individual Lesson Format

Each one-to-one session with an IELTS teacher lasts 20 minutes — longer than the real IELTS Speaking exam, which takes only 11–14 minutes. This extended format gives the teacher enough time to train your strategies, correct your mistakes, and provide detailed, personalised feedback to significantly boost your Speaking performance.

How Our Course Helps

Our 5-Step Study Plan gives you:

Expert strategy videos to master the structure of high-scoring answers.

Short tests to ensure you can apply each technique confidently.

Practical exercises to quickly identify and use the correct strategy.

Focused Band analysis to learn the official IELTS criteria and understand what examiners are looking for.

With this structured system, students significantly improve their Fluency, Coherence, and overall performance — which can make the difference between Band 6.0 and Band 7.5.

From Band 5 to Band 7
With the Comparing Strategy

Understanding how to compare ideas is key for a high IELTS Speaking score. Without it, your answer can sound too simple - which limits you to a Band 5.0.

However, if you use the Comparing strategy, you show a wider vocabulary and better grammar. This is how you can reach Band 7.0+.

Let's look at two examples side-by-side to see how the strategy works.

How does a Band 5 answer look?

Example Question

What are the differences between adults and children in terms of making friends?

Band 5.0 (without the Comparing strategy)

Answer:

Adults usually make friends at work or in some organised activities. They talk to people and sometimes they become friends after some time.

Children make friends mostly at school or when they play together. They usually become friends quickly because they spend a lot of time together.

Adults can also be friendly, but sometimes they don’t have enough time.

Why it’s Band 5.0

1) Vocabulary (Lexical Resource)
  • Mostly basic, repetitive vocabulary: “make friends”, “talk”, “play”, “time”, “friendly”.
  • No comparative phrases or higher-level connectors.
  • Very limited variety; simple, everyday words.

2) Coherence & Cohesion

  • Ideas are listed, not linked logically.
  • No comparison structure; no use of cohesive devices like “however”, “whereas”, “in contrast”.
  • Sentences feel disconnected and overly simple.

3) Grammar Range & Accuracy

  • Only simple sentence structures: Subject + Verb + Object.
  • No complex sentences (although, whereas, even though).
  • Grammar is mostly accurate but extremely limited in range.
  • No comparative forms (“more… than”, “less likely to…”, “tend to…”).
  • Band 5.0 grammar feedback: “Produces basic sentence forms and attempts complex structures, but errors or lack of range limit flexibility.

How does a Band 7 answer look?

Example Question

What are the differences between adults and children in terms of making friends?

Band 7.0 (using the Comparing strategy)

Answer:

“Well, obviously, there are several clear distinctions between adults and children when it comes to forming friendships.

Perhaps the most striking difference is that adults tend to build relationships much more slowly, mainly through work or structured activities, whereas children usually make friends almost instantly while playing or studying together at school.

Moving on to another key difference, adults often rely on shared interests or long-term goals to maintain friendships, while children connect simply because they enjoy spending time together. In contrast, adults may find it harder to socialise regularly due to busy schedules.

So, overall, while both groups form meaningful relationships, children generally make friends more easily and naturally, while adults approach friendship in a more selective and gradual way.”

Why it’s Band 7.0

1) Vocabulary (Lexical Resource)
  • Wide lexical range: “structured activities”, “rely on”, “maintain friendships”, “selective”, “gradual”.
  • Natural comparative language: “more slowly”, “more easily”, “in contrast”.
  • No repetition, precise phrasing.

2) Coherence, Cohesion & Structure

  • Clear, organised comparison structure: opening comparison frame, first difference, second difference, concluding comparison.
  • Logical sequencing and progression.
  • Effective connectors: “whereas”, “while”, “moving on”, “in contrast”, “overall”.
  • The answer feels cohesive and purposeful — every sentence builds on the previous one.

3) Grammar Range & Accuracy

  • Wide variety of complex grammar: contrast clauses (“whereas…”, “while…”), subordinate clauses (“because they enjoy…”), comparative forms.
  • Very good control with minimal errors.
  • Grammar supports nuance and clarity — a Band 7+ feature.

What Makes the Difference Between Band 5 and Band 7

IELTS Speaking Answer - Band 5.0

IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a book or film that you enjoyed.

You should say:
  • What it was
  • When you read or watched it
  • What it was about
  • And explain why you enjoyed it
Empty space, drag to resize

"I want to talk about Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It is a very famous book, and I read it some time ago.

The story is about a boy who goes to a school for magic. He makes friends and fights against a bad person.

I liked the book because it was interesting and sometimes exciting. Some parts were a little boring, but in general it was good."

Range of Vocabulary

  • The vocabulary is very basic: “famous”, “interesting”, “exciting”, “boring”, “good”, “bad person”.
  • No topic-specific words connected to books, films, or storytelling.
  • The examiner hears everyday words instead of academic or descriptive ones.

Precision and Appropriacy

  • Words like “bad person” are too simple; a higher-band answer would use “villain"
  • “Good”, “interesting”, “boring” are vague adjectives. More precise words “fascinating”, “dull”, “compelling” would raise the score.
  • The description doesn’t communicate emotions or atmosphere effectively.

Collocations and Phrasal Verbs

  • No strong collocations: “plot twist”, “action-packed story”, “from cover to cover”.
  • Instead, phrases are plain and unidiomatic: “school for magic”, “fights against a bad person”.

Repetition

  • Repetition of simple words “book”, “story”, “interesting”, “good” lowers the lexical range.
  • The speaker doesn’t attempt paraphrasing “novel”, “tale”, “narrative” instead of repeating “book”, “story”.
Empty space, drag to resize
Empty space, drag to resize

Why this is Band 5.0 for Vocabulary

  • Strengths: Clear and understandable, no mistakes.
  • Weaknesses: Limited range, lack of precision, overuse of common adjectives, absence of collocations and idiomatic language.
  • Impact: Vocabulary sounds flat → examiner cannot give higher than Band 5.0 for Lexical Resource.
Empty space, drag to resize

When the same answer is enriched with checklist words “breathtaking story”, “plot twist”, “compelling character”, “dreary”, “action-packed”, the lexical range becomes wider, more precise, and more natural — pushing the Vocabulary score to Band 7.0–7.5.

IELTS Speaking Answer - Band 7.0

IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a book or film that you enjoyed.

You should say:
  • What it was
  • When you read or watched it
  • What it was about
  • And explain why you enjoyed it
Empty space, drag to resize

"One of the books I really enjoyed reading from cover to cover is “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. At first, I tried to skim-read a few pages, but soon I couldn’t stop.

It tells a breathtaking story about a boy who finds out he is a wizard. The book has an exciting plot twist at the end, when the real villain is shown.

Harry is a very compelling character because he feels real and many readers can connect with him. Some parts of the book are a bit dreary, but there are also many action-packed moments that make it fun.

Overall, I liked it because it was not only interesting but also emotional. That’s why “Harry Potter” is one of my favourite books."

Range of Vocabulary

  • The answer shows a good variety of topic-specific words: “from cover to cover”, “skim-read”, “breathtaking story”, “plot twist”, “compelling character”, “dreary”, “action-packed”.
  • These lexical items go beyond “basic” words like “good”, “interesting”, “exciting”, “boring”.
  • The speaker demonstrates the ability to talk about books, films using natural collocations.

Precision and Appropriacy

  • Phrases like “breathtaking story” and “compelling character" add precision and richness.
  • “Plot twist” is accurate vocabulary for storytelling, much better than “surprising thing in the story”.
  • “Dreary” is a precise alternative to “boring”, showing nuance.
  • “Action-packed” conveys liveliness, instead of simply saying “full of action”.

Collocations and Phrasal Verbs

  • Strong collocations are used naturally: “from cover to cover”, “plot twist”, “compelling character”.
  • These make the answer sound more fluent and native-like.
  • There is no forced or awkward use of vocabulary.

Repetition

  • Instead of repeating “book” and “story” too often, the answer introduces synonyms and descriptive phrases: “character”, “villain”, “moments”.
  • This shows flexibility in expressing ideas.
Empty space, drag to resize
Empty space, drag to resize

Why this is Band 7.0 for Vocabulary

  • Strengths: The answer uses a rich variety of vocabulary and natural collocations such as “from cover to cover”, “breathtaking story”, “plot twist”, “compelling character”, and “action-packed moments”. The speaker demonstrates flexibility, precision, and awareness of topic-specific language.
  • Weaknesses: There are no significant weaknesses — only minor use of common adjectives like “interesting” or “fun”.
  • Impact: Vocabulary sounds confident, expressive, and natural — clearly showing the candidate’s ability to use advanced lexical items appropriately. This answer would score Band 7.0–7.5 for Lexical Resource.
